“Having lived across continents–from China to California, Florida, studying abroad in London, and now residing in Minnesota, I have learned to see the world through shifting lenses. Constant movement has shaped not only my sense of identity, but also how I understand place, memory, and belonging. My art grows from this fluidity: an attempt to trace how displacement and adaptation can coexist within the same body and mind. Working primarily within surrealism, I create visual spaces that blur the boundaries between the real and the imagined. I am drawn to this approach because it gives form to inner contradictions, the tension between the familiar and the foreign, the personal and the political. Through mixed media, including but not limited to graphite, watercolor, and oil paint, I build layered compositions that echo the shifting textures of thought and emotion. Each medium becomes a way to articulate the complexities of navigating multiple cultural identities. My artistic practice serves as both self-exploration and social commentary. While much of my work maps psychological landscapes and personal transformation, it is also shaped by my engagement with broader issues such as migration, environmental fragility, and cultural preservation. The dreamlike spaces I depict are grounded in real concerns, reflecting how the subconscious processes instability in this world. Art allows me to explore what cannot be expressed through language, it is where personal experience meets collective history, where borders dissolve and new meanings surface.”
