“My motivation in creating art is to achieve what Anne Bogart so thoughtfully describes, “Our task, and the task of every artist and scientist is to describe our inherited assumptions and invented fictions in order to create a new paradigm for the future.” Re-describing and making things new and therefore poignant to the audience should not be overlooked. There is truth and freedom in creating art from an others-focused perspective. Creating for others is a way to give back: it communicates, it inspires, with the power to reawaken the viewer, and ultimately serves as a gift to them. This concept in and of itself is a paradigm shift that appears to be overlooked in today’s society to the preferred form and motivation of self expression. While there is great value and beauty in self-expression, I have personally experienced there can be less fulfillment when solely creating from a personal need for self expression. There is more intrinsic reward when self-expression is coupled with or driven by the desire to create for others. The re-igniting of this intentional viewer-centric mindset serves as an opportunity to generously express ideas through art and provide a thoughtful, responsive gift to the viewer. “
