“I am a senior at Wright State University majoring in fine art, focusing on painting and photography. It took a long time for me to accept my fate as an artist. I spent five years in business school before I decided I was totally unfulfilled and that I would regret letting an opportunity to dive deep into art slip by. I have always loved to paint and to create, but I didn’t let myself fully express that. I was weighed down by internal narratives that told me I wouldn’t be successful; that the pursuit of art would be a path of struggle. Two years later, I have learned that to be an artist is adjacent to struggle, but it is closer to labor. Through art, I have found part of myself that I had lost, and that is worth the work.”
