Deyjah Stewart, is a junior at Texas Woman’s University, where she is majoring in Fine Arts
In her student statement she wrote: Obtaining an art-related career has been my top goal and I feel that continuing my art education in college would help me learn the professional side of the art world, whether it’s teaching, advertising, or designing. I want to eventually receive a master’s degree in fine arts.
Instead of TCU, I decided to attend Texas Womans University since it was more affordable for me and their art programs were plentiful. I also take care of my three brothers as well as my grandpa, who is retired. With this, I make the time to focus on my passions and continue to go to school because I know it will be worth it in the end. Education is something I refuse to pass up no matter the circumstances.
I decided to make a difference for myself, by focusing on my education and my life. I am already the first person in my family to graduate high school and I will be the first person in my family to continue college for a bachelor’s degree.
Receiving this scholarship would be another stepping stone toward pursuing my art endeavors. It would allow me to further study and travel abroad to explore art in other parts of the world. All of which would lead me to choose the right career and live my best creative life.
